How It All Went Down

Yes, yes it’s true, I am blogging. I know I can’t believe it myself; maybe it really has frozen over. I guess the idea of blogging just bothers me a bit. Most blogs you read are made by someone who has some inane thing to point out and he/she uses the blog to tell you about it for pages on end. Or there are the people who blog just because they can and it goes something like this: 7am, I woke up after hitting the snooze button 5 times, one more time than yesterday morning. 8am, I ate a bowl of Cheerios for Breakfast and it’s crazy, they taste the same as they did yesterday morning!!! 9am-5pm, I sat at work in my cubicle and surfed the internet all day while pretending to work every time I heard footsteps walking by, blah, blah, blah. Guess what…NOBODY Cares!!!!

I am hoping that our ensuing 12,000 mile, 11 country, Latin American journey to the end of the world on motorcycles is reason enough to join the league of self certified bloggers everywhere. I am also blogging in an attempt to give some peace of mind to concerned friends and family members who think they aren’t going to hear from me for 3 months. That’s right Mom, instead of taking those tranquilizers you keep threatening me with you can instead log onto this blog to make sure everything’s ok!!!

So here’s the history….

My good amigo Kyle Morham took a motorcycle trip up to Canada and back last summer with his Dad Eric. This apparently awoke some sleeping beast from within the man, causing him to tell me he had decided he wanted to ride a motorcycle from here to South America and take some time off work to do it. My initial reaction was something like, “You are freakin nuts, that’s not do-able, and I’m jealous, but have fun buddy.” In the ensuing days I turned the idea over a few more times in my head and began to realize there was no way I could let him go alone, mainly because I didn’t want to hear him brag about it for the rest of my life. Hoping not to be fired on the spot, I worked up the courage to ask one of the owner’s of my company if I could take a small vacation…just 3 months I said, you’ll barely even know I was gone. To my complete shock, he said something like, “Yeah I guess that would be ok.” This all took place in August ’08 and since then we've bought a couple Kawasaki KLR dualsport motorcycles and countless amounts of gear to go with. The rest is history. Apparently I’m supposed to still have a job when I get back in May. Here's the story of what happes in between...
